Success Stories

It is essential that the English language skills of all prospective students are sufficient for undertaking our challenging courses that are taught and examined in English. We therefore recommend that students should have English skills equivalent to IELTS level 4.5 for GCSE study and level 5 for A Level study.

We test students within the first few days of their enrolment and use the results to judge what level of English support tuition is required.

For those students holding IELTS scores of over 5.0, extra English tuition is available, if needed. The number of hours each week will be determined between Abbey College Manchester and the student. Tuition will be run alongside whatever academic programme the student is undertaking with us.
For those students studying A Levels and holding an IELTS score of 4.0 or 4.5, extra courses are required to develop English skills The aim is to develop the language skills of students to the level where they will be able to cope with their A Level studies. GCSE students are also advised to take an additional course. Some tuition each week will be delivered in their GCSE or A Level programme in conjunction with these extra English language courses.

Students holding an IELTS score of less than 4.0 will need to undertake and additional English language course alongside their studies.

English language tuition is carried out by Abbey College Manchester’s own highly qualified, dedicated English as a Second Language (ESOL) staff. If a high level of English support is required, tuition is undertaken in partnership with Manchester International College. They deliver a range of English language and IELTS preparation courses and are located within easy reach of us. Contact us for their details.
