At Abbey College, we offer a relaxed, informal and mature atmosphere and encourage our students to respect each other and themselves. We are also committed to providing a clear structure for academic progress, a safety net which no-one can fall through.
Support is tailored to the individual
Small classes allow our teachers to get to know everyone well; they see the whole person not just the student of that subject. Sixth Form students have a personal tutor who can give friendly and non-judgemental advice in individual meetings whenever these are needed. Personal tutors are usually chosen from among the student's subject teachers, which strengthens the relationship. |
Year 10 and Year 11 go to their Head of Year, Gary Brady, Assistant Head of Year, Lee Wray for advice and support when needed.
Stepping stones to university
Y10 and Y11 students follow a full programme of tutorials designed to enhance skills and confidence, led by the Head of Year.In Lower Sixth, group meetings focus on study skills and life skills, and students begin the two-year UCAS support programme.
In Upper Sixth, students are encouraged to become more independent, developing skills which will benefit them at university and the world of work. They also continue the UCAS support programme, getting expert advice right up to Results Day and beyond if needed.
One Year resit students are offered the same support mechanisms as Upper Sixth, with their main point of contact being the Head of One Year. |
