InformationInformation for International Students

My name is Francisco Bustos and I am the Director of International Admissions at Abbey College, Manchester. I am originally from Chile, but spent all my formative years in Manchester, learning English and studying for my A-Levels. Teachers, educators and international students have been a big part of my life.
Thanks to the support and encouragement of my English Literature teacher I went to read English as Foreign Language, German and Italian, with comparative British and Latin American Politics for my first degree at Ealing College of Higher Education. Later on I went to Manchester University to train as a Secondary School teacher, Modern Foreign Languages and ESOL.
Throughout my career I have worked with international students learning English. In Colombia and Chile, I worked for the local British Council office and for Cambridge ESOL Examination Syndicate, advising students of educational opportunities offered by the United Kingdom, at all levels: schools for children and universities for undergraduate or post-graduate studies.
I thoroughly enjoyed both my roles as senior administrator and examiner for Cambridge ESOL in Colombia and Chile. Since then I have worked for very prestigious and reputable education providers in the UK, helping prospective international students choose the right course for their age, and academic background.
As part of my current role, I enjoy meeting students in all the different countries which I frequently visit, and the opportunity to explain the differences and benefits of A-Levels, IB Diploma and Foundation programmes. Having the opportunity to discuss face to face is such a good option. Prospective international students and their parents have so many questions, concerns, and worries that need answers.
I believe Abbey Manchester offers international students a rigorous education, excellent academic preparation and outstanding opportunities to grow up in a safe, dynamic, small city with a supportive and caring team of teachers just before students take the big jump into university life.
As part of my role I look after our international agents and international families, making sure I meet agents and parents when I am in their country. Do contact me if you would like further information about our visits to your country and how we can work together. I travel frequently to Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Bulgaria, and Poland.
I am here to provide you and your parents with the best advice and answer any relevant questions about studying at Abbey Manchester and at a British or international university. Contact me directly on francisco.bustos@abbeydld.co.uk
