So why choose Religious Studies?
One reason is that Religious Studies at Abbey College focuses on morality and life issues. This allows maximum flexibility and gives students the opportunity not only to study several of the world's major religions, but also to examine some of the most fundamental questions about how we should live our lives.
Another good reason to choose religious studies is that you can develop all of those very important skills that you need to study religion and many other subjects at A-level and at university: communication; ICT; working with others; problem solving; improving your own learning skills; even some maths (but only a little, promise)!
GCSE Religious Studies ay Abbey follows the AQA specification B. The units of study are:
Religion and Life Issues: religious attitudes to animal rights, planet earth, prejudice and discrimination, early life, war and peace, and young people.
Religion and Morality: religious attitudes to matters of life (medical ethics), the elderly and death, drug abuse, crime and punishment, rich and poor in society, and world poverty.
Now for the really good bits! You don't need any prior knowledge; you don't need to be a member of any religion, but it helps if you are interested in learning about religious beliefs and, best of all, you only have two exams and no coursework.
