“Living quite a distance from the college meant a round trip for me each day of around 70 miles. Still it was worth it. The Business BTEC course was well organised and well taught and I loved every minute despite having to get the train really early each day. As it was based on continual assessment this suited my strengths of research and working methodically.

Being at Abbey College has turned my life around academically and I would highly recommend the college to others”.

“I already had gained a Mechanical Engineering degree but I was never completely comfortable with this career choice. It was a difficult decision to make but Abbey College was one of the few colleges where I could do A-Levels in just one year.

It has been an incredibly difficult year and I have had to work so hard. Seeing other One Year A-Level students in a similar situation was motivational and the teachers were nothing short of inspirational. A year on my decision has been vindicated in the best possible way”.

“I joined Abbey College because of their strong emphasis on personal support. The classes in my old school were big and very impersonal. I did not feel I was getting the teacher support necessary for me to be confident enough of getting the high A Level grades I wanted to go to university. The help I got at Abbey College with all my subjects was brilliant and the change in environment certainly worked for me”.

“The atmosphere here at Abbey College Manchester was really, relaxed and welcoming. It was easy to get along with your teachers, as they care about each student as an individual person.

I felt very comfortable here. I appreciate all they have done for me, helping me to achieve my great grades and going over my university application again and again with endless patience”

“I was really disappointed when I didn’t do as well as expected in Biology and Chemistry the first time round. I wasn’t able to access the degree course I wanted to. Most of my friends were going to university so the temptation to join them and do an alternative degree course was there. However, having talked to my parents I decided to take both subjects again.

Abbey College was one of the few places that offered this option. The students are called students not pupils and you are treated as an adult in an environment that is the perfect stepping stone to university life. I immensely enjoyed my year there and will always look back on it in the knowledge that going there was the best decision I ever made”.

“As a result of the knowledgeable, helpful teachers I have now achieved the best grades I could have. All the teachers are really passionate about their subject and love teaching it. This was a great motivator to me.

My learning skills and general ability have been fostered in a hard-working, yet supportive environment that challenged me so much.”

Abbey College Manchester is a small college with students from many different cultures and countries. Everyone was so friendly that it was like being in a very big family.

The students all get to know each other and help each other. The teachers were really supportive and were always happy to give extra help. They would encourage me to come and talk to them if there was something I didn’t understand. I also got so much assistance when preparing my university application. Their knowledge as to the best universities to apply to for my chosen degree course was
amazing”

“Lots of things were impressive about Abbey College but the best one for me was the advice I got every step of the way. From my first visit to the college, induction at the college and the teaching right through to the advice about applying to university and help with my application was just so good.

The college also gave my practice interviews to prepare for the real one at Cambridge. The interview itself went well and I’m so delighted that, with my grades, I have now achieved my dream at studying at such a brilliant university”.

Abbey College has a good track record for sending students to top universities. I was given a personal tutor who helped me whenever needed. That’s what was so good about learning here; there was so much support available. I always wanted to come to the classes even those that started at 9.00am as the teachers made them fun and interesting!

Living in the college student residence has also been a great experience for me. I made friends with other students from all around the world and it helped me have a nice social life. Although it gave me the taste of independent living that students do not usually get until they go to university, yet I still received good care from the house parents.

“To have the chance to study in the UK was an opportunity I couldn’t refuse. I chose Manchester as it has a lot of history but still feels modern. It is quite a small city really but having Manchester United close by makes me feel like I am in a city of big importance.

“I came to Abbey College because of its reputation; it has high quality teaching, high levels of personal support, regular assessments, equal relationships between students and teachers and small class sizes. Everything that I expected from the college was being delivered and I am very happy with my final grade and to be going to the University of Manchester”.

“I am really pleased with my result, which now means I can go to the university of first choice. I enjoyed my time at Abbey College Manchester because it was a small college with a very friendly atmosphere.

I met a lot of nice people from different countries and the UK and I will try to keep in touch with them all. The teachers and the facilities at the college were also great”.

“The personal support I got from Abbey College Manchester throughout my time there was amazing such as helping to get my visa, during classes and with my university application. Learning at the college was hard but fun and enjoyable.

The teachers were happy to stay behind at the end of class to answer any questions or to see me during their free periods. The other students were really friendly and to achieved the grade I now have is the perfect ending to my time at the college. I can’t wait to start the next step in my academic career”

“My sister went to Abbey College Manchester and really enjoyed it so I wanted to follow in her footsteps. Manchester is such a nice city with lots of things to do and see when you are not studying. The college is right in the centre of the city and close to a big science and industry museum which I visited often to gain inspiration for my studies.

The class sizes at the college were very small, which meant the teaching and personal help was fantastic. The teachers were so helpful from the first day I arrived to my last day.”
