Abbey College Manchester History

Our history

Over the past twenty six years Abbey College Manchester has become one of the leading providers of independent sixth form education in Greater Manchester with 220 students. We have a developed a strong reputation locally, nationally and globally for high quality teaching, very small class sizes and a strong tutorial and welfare system.

The college is located in a modern five storey building in the heart of Manchester city centre. All classrooms; suites; studios and laboratories are well-equipped and resourced, and provide a teaching and learning environment to help students fulfill their aspirations.

Our educational offering has changed significantly since 1990, from being initially designed for A-Level retaking students to now being a GCSE, Foundation and A level college specialising in meeting the needs of both local and international students.

In 2012 a major extension of the ground floor in the college was undertaken. This comprised a new state of the art ICT suite housing the latest hardware and software; a new reception centre; meeting room and visitors’ waiting area.

In the early part of 2017 another exciting expansion will be taking place at the college. This will involve the creation of a brand new Study Centre and Student Services hub as well as three new classrooms.
