Art Trip to London

24th February 23

This February a group of Art, Photography and Textiles students took a trip to London. The aim was to introduce students to some of the world famous galleries and museums on offer in the capital, as well as take in other cultural aspects of this famous city. This aim was admirably met as students visited a range of galleries to gain inspiration and gather material for their own projects, and view important works by historical and contemporary artists and photographers. In a packed itinerary there were visits to the Royal Academy, the Centre for British Photography, Tate Modern and The Photographers Gallery.

There were opportunities for sightseeing too, as for many it was their first visit to London, so they were delighted to see Big Ben and the London Eye, and take a walk along the Thames. There was free time for shopping and exploring galleries and shops in Carnaby Street and Oxford Street too. And a visit to London isn’t complete without taking in a West End show, and everyone was impressed with a fabulous performance of ‘Wicked’ at the Apollo Victoria Theatre.

Throughout the trip students were taking many photographs for their portfolios. The department will be exhibiting a selection of photos from the trip, and holding a competition for best photo. The winner will be chosen by an invited judge.

Members of staff on the trip observed how rewarding it was to spend time with students as they took in the sights and the artworks, and gained inspiration from the city and its culture.
