“In the two years I have spent at Abbey College Manchester, I have received a great deal of support and motivation. I have always found the staff to be friendly and approachable and always willing to help with problems concerning homework, revision or my UCAS application. The most valuable skill I have gained has been a better knowledge and understanding of how to structure my exam questions. I used to rush questions and try to write as much as possible, I have now learnt to step back to take a calmer and more reasoned approach.”

“I have studied at Abbey College Manchester for three years. I did my GCSE examinations here and enjoyed it so much that I continued into the sixth form. The small college community, class sizes and the one to one attention you get at the college really worked well for me. My teachers were passionate about their subjects and that really inspired me to perform well. I enjoyed studying with students from many different countries and backgrounds. I feel a more mature and rounded person from having studied at Abbey. I received lots of support for my UCAS application and was prepared thoroughly for the interview process. I am very grateful for my time at Abbey College”.

HAMZA AJAZ

Name Hamza Ajaz

Subjects: Psychology A
Biology B
Degree Course: Ophthalmic Dispensing

“The atmosphere in the college is really supportive. It is small and friendly. Most students know each other and the mixing of students between year groups and nationalities is really nice. My teachers were passionate about their subjects and taught me valuable skills in regards to exam technique. I’d always thought I had performed well in exams before but the skills I learnt here took me on to a higher level. I immersed myself in the college community and took part in many Extra-Curricular and Enrichment activities like football, basketball and charity events. The Support Staff play a crucial role in supporting the students in other aspects of their studies like timetables, exams and student travel”.

ISAAC DOMINGOS LUIS ZECA

Name Isaac Domingos Luis Zeca
Course: International Foundation Programme
Subjects: Engineering Pathway – 93.8%
Degree Course: Systems and Control Engineering
University: The University of Sheffield

“Studying at Abbey College Manchester was a great experience for me. I came here to study on their International Foundation Programme: Engineering Pathway to try and achieve my dream of studying Engineering at university. Manchester is a great place to study; it is vibrant and modern. I am also a big Manchester United fan too. I immersed in the culture here. The classes here are really small, never more than 12 in each class and all the students have strong links to the teachers. The Enrichment programme at the college is great. I did football every Wednesday with around 30 other students but there are loads of other fun things to try too like Photography, Music or Engineering Club. I would recommend Abbey College Manchester to other students without hesitation.”

SOPHIE WORTHINGTON

Name Sophie Worthington
Course: BTEC Level 3: Business
Subjects: BTEC Business DDM (equivalent to 1 A grade and 2 B grades at A-Level)
Degree Course: Tourism Management
University: The University of Chester

“I really enjoyed my two years at Abbey College Manchester. Studying in the heart of the city is really quite unique and there is always a positive buzz around the college. The BTEC programme was good move for me as I was better suited to coursework as a form of assessment. I was in a small group on the course. We all became close and we leave the college as friends for life. I feel more confident than I did before studying here and better prepared for the next few years at university. I enjoyed great support from my tutor and teachers. They encouraged me in both my BTEC programme and my love for singing and acting outside of college.”
