Abbey College Manchester Maths Challenge

Abbey College Manchester has entered a team of four sixth form students into a prestigious national maths competition.

The UK Mathematics Trust organise the biggest national maths competitions in the country for 11 to 18 year old UK pupils for both individuals and teams with the aim of advancing their mathematical education. Over 650,000 pupils take part each year and the very best individuals can qualify for the British Mathematical Olympiad and perhaps even represent Great Britain in the International Olympiad.

The Team Challenge requires a team of four pupils to work together to solve problems competing against other schools and colleges in the region. The most successful will qualify for the National Finals.

The problems themselves require imaginative and creative thinking as well as sound mathematical knowledge appropriate to the age group. Each round is designed so that the team must cooperate with each other to reach their solutions. Our team have been practising since September and we are sure that they will give a good account of themselves.
