Grazie San Carlo

A taste of Italy came to Abbey College Manchester recently in the shape of Marcello Distefano, the managing director of San Carlo, the largest family owned restaurant group in the UK.
We were exceptionally lucky that he was able to take time out from his busy schedule to come into the college. Marcello was given a tour of the college and especially the art studio and business classrooms as they brought back great memories for him.
He then delivered a wonderfully engaging, entertaining talk to the business students from the college. This looked at the very humble origins and history of the group and the brands, several of which are based here in Manchester. Marcello also covered the success of the group, its current operations and gave some hints as to their future plans before taking questions from the students.
The talk struck the perfect balance and was exceptionally well received by the students and staff alike. The students felt inspired by the visit and are still talking about it.
Marcello really enjoyed the visit and thought the students were fantastic.
A small gift was given to Marcello at the end of the visit as a thank you to him for visiting.
It is a fantastic link for the college and one that will hopefully be developed further in the future.
