Photo Competition In Madrid Abbey College Manchester

Talented students have been recognised for their artistic abilities, following a creative competition.

Art and photography students entered the challenge by submitting one image which they captured during a recent trip to Madrid.

The students were given the invaluable opportunity to be inspired by the sights and sounds of the vibrant Spanish city, being tasked to create sketches or capture images for their portfolios.

The educational trip saw the students explore many famous buildings and museums enabling them to appreciate the important art collections and spectacular views. During a visit to an old tobacco factory where local artists exhibit their work, the graffiti covered walls gave various opportunities for taking photos, as did the incredible view from the top of the renowned Palacio de Cibeles Centrocentro.

An excursion to Santiago Bernabeu satisfied football fans who were able to sit in the dugout and see the changing rooms, whilst others visited a local market. Some students also took inspiration from a flamenco show, a highly impressive display of the passion and intensity of the Spanish people.

A vast collection of impressive imagery was captured during the tour but it was A-Level student Shuyin Chen who took home gold with her masterpiece. She captured a contrast of light and dark with her image of statue heads along a corridor.
