Students and Staff Shine at Abbey College Manchester’s Winter Show

14th December 21

An impressive array of talent was recently showcased at the college’s annual Winter Concert, with students and staff members joining together for the festivities in aid of charity.

Gifted performers took centre stage at the Unitarian Chapel on Cross Street for the highly-anticipated event, raising much-needed awareness and funds for mentoring charity Citywise and also the Manchester Refugee Centre. An evening awash with talent and creativity, the audience was captivated by the spectacular variety of singing, instrumental musical displays and poetry.

The college’s outgoing Principal Liz Elam gave a series of impressive vocal performances with her recitals of ‘Dancing Queen’ ‘California Dreaming’ and ‘Gimme Gimme’ – particularly moving as her last show before leaving the college. Liz was also joined for a duet by incoming Principal Chris Randell, for a rendition of the festive classic ‘Merry Christmas’. Before this Chris had himself performed a solo, ‘Bad Leroy Brown.’

Another key highlight of the event came from teacher Jane Chiarotti, who read her new original poem ‘Christmas Sock’.

Following what was her last significant event at the college, Abbey College Principal, Liz Elam, commented: “Our Winter Concert was a jubilant occasion and a wonderful way to bring our college community together, all while raising money for good causes. We have many talented students and staff members here at Abbey College Manchester, and the evening presented the perfect opportunity to showcase and celebrate their creativity and aptitude.”
